The Institute for Educational Planning (IEP) is a CCCD subsidiary agency established in collaboration with Ohio State University and Columbus Children’s Hospital. IEP is a diagnostic clinic serving children with known or suspected special needs, with a specialty in autism and related disorders. In addition to providing diagnostic services, IEP provides an extensive variety of assessment services based on the referral question(s) under consideration. These services focus on developing an intervention plan that supports each child’s development and unique learning needs. The following services are provided:
Diagnostic testing to determine or rule out specific disorders or disabilities
Educational placement evaluations to determine appropriate educational setting, teaching methodologies, and supports
Speech and language testing to determine communication disorders or make recommendations for speech and language services
Trans-disciplinary assessments to review all areas of development and provide recommendations for educational needs
Testing for specific learning disabilities or giftedness
Triennial Evaluations
Transitional Planning
Participation in Planning and Placement Team Meeting and Due Process support
Behavior Analytic Consultation Services
Because IEP is a diagnostic service, they often see children that have not yet been classified with a particular diagnosis. However, members of our staff have specific expertise in the area of autism spectrum disorders, and approximately 60% of all referrals to IEP are for either a diagnosis or educational placement evaluation for children that are known or suspected to have autism or a related disorder.
IEP provides services for children with a wide range of learning differences and disabilities, including but not limited to:
Autism Spectrum Disorders
Learning Disabilities
Emotional Disorders
Tourette's Syndrome
Speech and Language Delays
Obsessive Compulsive Disorders
Anxiety Disorders
IEP is staffed by a transdisciplinary team of Ph.D. and Masters level expert clinicians in the areas of Clinical Psychology, School Psychology, Speech and Language Pathology, Behavior Analysis, and Special Education. Team members collaborate to contribute to the development of one comprehensive treatment plan encompassing all areas of child development.
A referral to IEP can be made by a parent or by any educational or medical provider. Please contact the IEP Intake Coordinator, Kim Baker, directly to discuss your needs, make an appointment, or to receive additional information.
Newly referred children are generally scheduled for an appointment within 60 days of contacting the agency. Depending on the child’s age, abilities, and the referral concerns, more than one appointment and/or a school or home visit may also be necessary to complete the evaluation process. When more than one appointment is needed, the evaluation process is usually completed within a 30 day period. Upon completion of testing and observations, a final written report is typically available 4-6 weeks after the final appointment.
