The Extra Steps Program is specially designed for individuals ages 3 to 21 with autism spectrum disorders and/or other developmental disorders who require intensive support and instruction during non-school hours. The long-term goal of the Extra Steps Program is to increase each person's level of independence and to positively impact the quality of life for both the participant and their families.

The Extra Steps Program’s respite services are mainly provided at CCCD’s Wolf Harbor Road facility in Milford.  Additional settings may include the family's private home or public school settings depending on an individual's needs. CCCD will work with families and other professionals to determine appropriate environments, activities, schedules and duration of time spent at various locations, as well as learning the objectives for each individual in each environment.
